Some projects go beyond art. Here is ours: a paper menina for Madrid, “Prism of Castizo Skies”.
When Madrid City Council invited us to join the Meninas that fill the city’s streets every year for a social cause, we didn’t hesitate: there had to be a menina made of paper.
That’s how “Prism of Castizo Skies” was born, a work about the colour of Madrid, its changing light and the atmosphere that paints the city with a different palette every day. A play of skies and shades that many artists, like Velázquez, captured in their work through the capital’s characteristic blues.
The piece is part of this charity edition, which will tour different parts of Madrid before a charity auction whose proceeds will go to the people of the island of La Palma.
It is currently on display in La Guindalera, opposite the market, sharing space with the life of the neighbourhood and its residents.
A paper menina born from colour, travelling through the city and ending up as help for others.
