How’s the pandemic lockdown going? Over here we’re making the most of the days at home to carry out ideas and learn things I’d been wanting to learn for ages.
To get through it all a little better, and looking ahead to when this is over, Missmsmith is launching a challenge: let’s prepare a HUGE post-pandemic party. It’s time to think about the good things and forget so many grim statistics 😀
Every day you’ll have a small project to help make that party amazing. How do we start? By making paper stars to decorate.
Haha, I know you’re saying “ooh, that looks tricky!” But no! Well, a little, but it’s totally doable, especially if you make the pieces with your lockdown housemates.

GAME version:
With the origami star we’ve learned, here’s a game for when we celebrate #ThePartyWeDeserve, but you can start practising at home now!
1. Put the 30 pieces of paper in a pile in the middle of the table. On the count of 3 the game starts: 1, 2 and… 3!
2. PHASE 1: Each player takes papers from the pile and folds pieces. Every time you finish a piece, you score 1 point.
3. Phase 1 ends when the papers run out. Count everyone’s points and write them down in a notebook.
4. PHASE 2: Let’s build the star together, starting with the youngest player placing a piece in the centre.
5. Set a 10-second countdown on your phone or use a little sand timer. Taking turns, you have to add a piece to the structure, using a glue stick if you like.
6. Whoever places their piece within 10 seconds without undoing anything already built scores 1 point and passes the turn.
7. If you complete a pyramid on your turn, you score 3 points (you can see what a pyramid, three pieces joined together, looks like in the video).
8. If you complete a star on your turn, you score 5 points (you can see what a star, five pyramids joined together, looks like in the video).
9. Whoever finishes the star scores 7 points.
10. The player with the most points wins.
